Mihrimah Belly Dancer
Over 20 years of teaching, performing and dancing on stages

Shimmy Spirit seeks to combine the spiritual aspects of bellydance, fused with gothic, Shimmy Spirit Productions seeks to combine the spiRITUAL aspects of bellydance, fused with gothic, tribal, martial arts and meditative influences.

Dancing on stages, in a professional capacity, since the 80s, Mihrimah
discovered a passion for belly dancing when she took a class from a friend in 1992.
Soon thereafter, she joined The Moon & Star Dance Troupe and performed
throughout NJ, NY and PA from 92-00. She founded a new troupe in 2002,
Tribe An' Nisa. And in 2006, Mihrimah founded The BellyStars Dance Troupe. The BellyStars taught and performed Mihrimah’s signature co-created
choreographies around NJ until 2008. In 2007, Mihrimah created, promoted,

directed, emceed and performed in Night of Dark Dance Delights. In 2009,

Mihrimah collaborated with the Fin-Dicators and created RockaBelly, fusing

bellydance with surf rock. Currently, she is collaborating with other NJ belly dancers to put on unforgettable stage shows, such as Flavors of the East in Keyport.

Mihrimah teaches and performs most forms of Belly Dance: cabaret,
tribal, tribaret, gothic, fusion, folk, Ghawazee, Egyptian, Turkish, Persian, and
Gypsy. Her specialty props include veil, fan, sword, candle and zills. Ever the
engaging performer, Mihrimah often draws the audience to her and with her on
the dance floor.

A bellydance instructor for many years at Brookdale Community College, Mihrimah now teaches her  popular series “Belly Basics” primarily at Bayshore Fitness in Hazlet, NJ and at Croydon Hall, with Middletown Parks and Recreation. Mihrimah offers workshops and belly dance parties in and around New Jersey. Her classes are usually quite full, with students of differing abilities, ranging in age from 7 to 70, male and female. Mihrimah’s most recent workshops have been “Dangerous Dance and Pointy Props” and “Henna, Healing and History”. Her favorite dance partner continues to be her daughter.

Mihrimah has performed at multicultural festivals, private parties, weddings and family celebrations, nightclubs, restaurants, and networking events. She has advised several NJ High School Dance Teams in recent years. In her spare time, she does some writing, modeling and guest deejay spots on college radio stations.

Shimmy Spirit was created early in 2009 and is not affiliated with the magazine. Mihrimah is based in the United States, though she is friendly with Mihrimah from Germany. Mihrimah is not affiliated with the gaming Warrior Princess nor the Turkish mosque.

Mihrimah has belly danced on both U.S. coasts and in Morocco. Mihrimah has also guest dj'd on several NJ college radio stations. She earned her 1st degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do in 1985 and has trained children and adults in self-defense. She has also trained lifeguards as a Water Safety Instructor. Mihrimah is functionally fluent in 3 languages. In additon to being a belly dancer, Mihrimah is an NJ certified teacher. She is also a Masters degreed counselor, earning her National Certified Counselor credential in 2003. And in 2010, she became a Reverend.
